Tracklist

Ever since Lost came out, I have been yearning to create something new. I didn't just feel the need to create music, I wanted to experiment. I wanted to experiment with sound and immerse myself in a world.

That's when I came up with The Poison. A metaphor for all the toxic relationships, negative thoughts, and pain. But it grew out to be more than that. It became a face for all that is bad. Naming this, facing this, navigating through a life infected by The Poison... This has been incredibly liberating for me.

This album is a result of the freedom I found. And yes, it will be very different than what you're used to hearing from me. However, every part of it is 100% me, created with passion, excitement, love, and genuine emotions.

This album feels like the start of a new chapter in my life, one that I am beyond excited about!!!

STORY

Making The Poison: Act 1 has been an absolute creative playground!! It took a lot of self-reflection, talking with friends, and journaling to get to this point. Because in order to make The Poison, I had to let go of my fear of being judged, the limited believes that stopped me from pursuing a new layer of music, one that excited me more than anything!!

On the technical side, I am sharing a lot of behind-the-scenes content on my Ben Berkenbosch Extra Channel if you’re curious about the more technical stuff, I would highly recommend checking this out!!!

On the more emotional side, journaling has helped me a lot. And entering the world of The Poison became my outlet whenever I feel overwhelmed or stressed. This is also why I wanted to turn it into 3 acts, because there is so much more for me to explore, I couldn’t possibly fit all of that in one album!!!

The idea behind a lot of the music is to take something real and see how ‘the poison’ reacts to it. Kind of a way to exaggerate emotions or certain moments in my life. But also as a way of experimenting with sound, like reversing guitars or transforming the orchestra into something completely wild and crazy. I experimented with new sounds, and I became more in tune with who I am and what I feel. This album has done that for me. Which I am eternally grateful for!!!
